    What happens when/if someone steals/destroys a drone/the drones?

    When do the drones charge?
What happens when the drones do not have battery/energy left?

It's a prototype y'all. And who knows the applications! Providing shade is probably not helpful but maybe this could be scaled up for construction purposes. Idk. Calm down. It's cool.

I think this is rather a concept prove of drone building than as real infrastructure projects

drones can be super loud and annoying; i would find them quite disturbing in a park

Wow. An overly-complicated solution to a problem that doesn't exist.
It's like a group of students was given a box full of buzzwords and told to use all of them.
"Voxel-based intelligent digital material" -> lozenges.
Why do the panels need ANY electronics ? They could be entirely dumb and arranged by a master control system.
Magnetic panels that can be separated by a mere drone, are supposed to be safe to walk under in a breeze ?
What chance is there of the drone being able to fit a last panel into a gap (0:26) with the slightest swaying ?

Too slow, not effective, wasting energy for charging the drone, you can rather just build it with a stick to attach that canopy module
