Just zoom in to the native resolution. The phone will be a noisy mess retouched by edge-enhancing software and the DSLR will be crisp all the way down.

Guys, this wasn't challenge between iphone and dslr, this was more a competition between you as a photographers. Why compare phone with pro dslr is another question imho. Nice pictures though!

Goes to show you, its the shooter, not the camera that makes the photo…

The thing is iPhones are better at showing what is actually there so point and shoot but other cameras can do stuff that iPhones can’t ie. astrophotography, low light photography, long exposure and more.

iPhone 7 or $5,000 camera are just tools If you were required to shoot the same image using the same lighting for both with the iPhone and the $5,000 camera then it would be iPhone vs a camera. This was a Photographer challenge who was more creative. This had nothing to do with a camera vs an iPhone. Let's say someone has access to the expensive gear in the world and not be a photographer. But they have a creative Vision for an awesome image Do you think that they could beat someone who had the cheapest gear and had a great vision or concept and knew how to use their cheap equipment. I would say the person who knew how to use the gear would win because of they both had a creative Vision but the only one knew how to use the gear.
A camera or an iPhone is just a tool those tools only help you to take a picture. Knowledge of photography, the know-how of gear you use and your eyes and brain what makes you a photographer. Depending on your vision and creativity will determine how good you are as a photographer If you know how to use tools.
Both images were winners. The added element of the smoke was beautiful. The use of the fan for the motion of the hair was also beautiful. The most shocker was how she was posed from a seniors portrait to a much more mature looking lady. Some people will like the hair some people will not I understand that. I bet she loves the pose where she looks like a very young mature adult. I know I would but some may not.
Please do a video where you do iPhone vs $5,000 camera where everything has to be identical except the camera. Even the editing has to be the same. Then let people who decide which image looks the best to them. Great video anyway but I felt like this was a photographer vs photographer.

I always hate it when they do these challenges, take the photos then edit the fuck out of them! That's not showing what the camera can do… it's showing what you can do on photoshop!

I am a serous photographer myself and i like the iPhone more. You are not zooming in on the iPhone photo so you can not see all the noise. The one taken with the DSLR just is bland i guess.

Phone is good only good lighting conditions and has poor dynamic range. However with Sony A7s you can shoot in total darkness with minimal noise.
